My story

Hi, I’m Sarah. Here’s my story.

By day, I work in IT, but my creative passions are my side businesses in web design and freelance photography.

I built PhotoUpload because I wanted a better way to collect the pictures everyone was taking at events, and a smoother way to share the professional photographs I was creating for my own clients.

01 · The hen party

All the fun. Fewer messages.

When a friend was getting married, I created a quick app for her hen celebrations. It combined party games with a central hub where the group could share photos from both a festival trip and a local night out.

Instead of filling a WhatsApp chat with hundreds of pictures, everyone could add their photos to one collection, browse at their own pace and download the ones they loved. We actually got to enjoy the conversation without the usual image explosion.

02 · The wedding

One QR code. Everyone’s memories.

For the wedding itself, I made a separately themed collection page and placed QR posters around the venue. Guests could scan, upload and share their view of the day without installing a new app or navigating a complicated sign-up process.

People loved how simple it was. I hadn’t found quite the right combination of tools elsewhere, so I decided to develop what I had built into something other couples, friends and families could use too.

03 · Behind the camera

A better handover for photographers.

Running a web design business wasn’t my only perspective. As a freelance photographer, I already knew the frustrations of sharing client images, chasing up selections and posting USB sticks. With another wedding to photograph, I wanted a version of my app that carried my own branding and let me deliver professional photographs alongside the guests’ memories.

That idea grew into two galleries: the Guest Upload Gallery, for everyone’s photos from the day, and the Client Gallery, for proofing and delivering professional work. PhotoUpload now bridges those two worlds: it’s effortless for a single celebration, and a practical, polished workflow for the professionals making it happen.

04 · A different approach to cost

Built around work that comes and goes.

During my 20-plus years working in IT, I’ve watched software evolve towards platforms where customers only ever pay for what they actually use, and where smart automation frees up valuable time. I realised this fair, flexible approach was exactly what was missing in the photography world.

As someone balancing side businesses, I know creative work doesn’t arrive in a steady stream. A busy summer of weddings is often followed by a quieter winter. I wanted professionals to have the tools they need without being trapped in an expensive, fixed subscription when their workload slows down.

So I built those efficiencies into PhotoUpload. You set when each gallery closes and PhotoUpload handles the reminders, closing and clearing up. As finished galleries clear, the storage you use falls, and because each month’s bill is for the highest storage you needed that month, a quieter month simply costs less.

Why I built it

Less chasing. More enjoying the photographs.

Whether you’re planning one party or delivering work to clients every week, I want collecting, choosing and sharing photographs to feel straightforward, personal and manageable.

Still creating… And the hen party games? They haven’t been forgotten. A dedicated hen party game app is in the works, another idea shaped by the celebrations that started this story.
